Default PvE Pet Build

I have had a level 20 ranger forever, but have never actually used it. I want to have a pet build for PvE because the concept seems so cool to me.

Please dont post just to give your opinion on why pets are bad/suck in PvE/PvE etc etc...

Please also do not suggest factions only skills as I only own the other three campaigns.

Heres what I've got so far:

R/P (bow attacks werent so good with pet skills, and the shield helps)
Beast Mastery: 12 + 1 + 1
Expertise: 8 + 1
Spear Mastery: 10
Dire pet (I have a dire polar bear)

Barbed Spear
Poison Tip Signet
Brutal Strike
Otyugh's Cry
Strike As One
Never Rampage Alone
Comfort Animal
Charm Animal

use never rampage alone, strike as one, otyugh's when entering a battle and start building adrenaline with standard spear attacks while spamming brutal strike. Hit poison tip and barbed spear on a target and repeat on a new target. Heal and res with comfort.

Things I considered adding/changing:

Replacing barbed + poison tip with Wearying spear + antidote signet.
Removing Otyugh's and adding Disrupting strike

Please feel obligated to suggest new skills/builds for me

Thanks

I made the following build for my ranger to use my Rainbow Pheonix with... was quite potent.

[Stunning Strike][Scavenger's Strike][Spear of Fury][Merciless Spear]["You Move Like A Dwarf"][Charm Animal][Comfort Animal][Never Rampage Alone]. I trust my self, and my party so I dont bother with rez, never had a problem.

Pretty simple to work out... start out by using YMLaD, Never Rampage Alone and Spear of Fury. Then spam all skills on recharge. I like using stunning right after using YMLaD coz then they cant dodge it. Scavengers provides more then enough energy to spam all skills on recharge till the cows come home.

Just a tip about ur build: a) Degen in PvE isnt so hot, and b) using poison tipped signet is even worse. Apply poison will be fine, still short lived poison, but 2 seconds every 24 rather then 1 every 6. I also find strike as one to be somewhere between useless and pointless.

Hope this helps. And hope scavengers isnt a factions skill, i cant remember nowadays.

I was thinking merciless spear for deep wound or blazing spear for the burning, and poison tip signet. Theres no reasonable way I can fit a preparation in there because there is only 3 points left after spear mastery and that wont make apply poison worth the cost.

Degen just seems more effective because I can spread it to multiple targets with poison tip and barbed. because I wont be doing huge amounts of damage with two spear attacks I chose to not even waste 8 seconds building up 6-8 adrenaline. I was thinking an interrupt, but the only spear interrupts cost 8 adren or have conditional effect like cracked armor.

I've always liked [Great Dwarf Weapon] on my bar when I go Beast Master, then cast it on my pet.

I prefer to run as a Hammer Guy though when in BM mode, I find it easier to keep track of my pet, but that's neither here nor there(though I think it is way over that way Someplace)

[Apply Posion] will be just fine even if you don't spec much into WS. As you stated you feel your more effective spreding deen than doing straight up damage. So drop you spear to 9 and move those points, as well as the leftovers, into WS. Get yourself a 33% longer Spear head and "TAB
TAB TAB" your heart out.

Also, It's PvE don't be afraid to run Major or even Superior Runes. Besides a Major is -35 hp, but with a Spear/Shield combo your running +30 Hp more than with a Bow, so a Major really would not hurt much at all, not to mention the almost constant +hp regen from [Never Rampage Alone] making up the difference. Use a Major beast for more Damage there OR leave the BEast as is and add more points to WS.

So I say Drop Poison Signet for Apply Poison and Strike as one for Great Dwarf Weapon. Though those changes will make your build more energy intensive as GDW is not effected by Expertise. So perhaps the extra points to Expertise instead of WS, though not worth it unless you can get Expertise to total 12.

Great dwarf weapon sounds like a good idea, Ill try it out. However I do want an elite, I was thinking Ferocious Strike to help keep energy up.

I normally run Ferocious Strike and it is VERY good for energy management, I just did not want to stray too far from the build you posted.

Think about that Major rune too.

My only concern was keeping my health above 500, with the major it ended up being just above 500 . Just capped ferocious strike, added slayers spear and blazing spear to take full advantage of the energy management. Im going to try it out and see if it is as good as it sounds on paper. When I get up to where I can cap great dwarf weapon on this char, ill replace blazing with it.

No worries about straying from my build, if its not as good as it can be then its not as good as it can be.

With the new scavenger's strike (proph skill btw) it is easy to keep up energy, and since you alrdy thinking in applying some conditions it would free up the elite slot Ferocious strike would take. since this is a huge energy boost, you may consider the awfuly costy Rampage as one. Btw in my experience the worst thing that can happen in a BM build is when your pet gets blinded. There is no condition-removal in the BM line, its clearly a stuff of monks and ritus (though i think comfort animal should at least be able to cure 1 condition...but it isnt).
Oh and about GDW: seems nice, but wont spare your energy. I prefer feral agression above it

Rampage as one seems like such a waste not only because the speed buff seems unnecessary in PvE but because I can use Rampage as one and keep it up for 10 energy less. Its a shame all the more widely used bm elites are factions only.

Thats the nice thing about beast masters is that often its not worth using a bm elite apart from enraged lunge. Scavengers now (imo) outdoes ferocious. So by running elites from another line you can do so much more. Spear elites, earth shaker, devastating, eviscerate, dragon slash, etc. All pretty good, and dont take away from the build.
